We also live across the street from some very decent shopping. Mickey and I go at least once a week. We cross six lanes of traffic, or seven, depending on which signal we cross at. Our stroller sure comes in handy!!
When we moved to this complex in September, there were signals for the crosswalks, but no white lines. Once we saw a blind woman with a walker crossing there. That was the last straw for me! My grandparents' old friend told me which city official to contact, and I complained, asking for the lines to be drawn. A couple of months later, I got a phone call from the city asking for more details. He agreed that by law they should be there. Whoever did the job originally neglected or forgot or something, I guess. Now it's March, and they are finally painting those white lines! I'm ecstatic! The job isn't done yet but they have finished one signal light and started on the next one. ONE PERSON'S VOICE CAN MAKE A DIFFERENCE! :-)
So, now my son and I can cross 6-7 lanes of traffic more safely. What a relief! But we are still not totally content... Since I am not driving currently, it'd be GREAT if we could walk to a park... So, since we now know that we will not be leaving DFW until fall 2015 at the soonest (that topic deserves another post altogether), we are considering moving to another rental. A house would be wonderful, but most likely an apartment will be more economical. So, we got on the waiting list for one that looks good about a ten-minute drive from our current place. Here's hoping one opens up for us there! Then the boy, the dog, and I could walk in the park every day if we like. I dare to dream...
NOTE: Above is our shopping stroller. We bought it when the airline broke our other one. A couple months later my darling-Daiju was able to fix it, but it can't hold as many groceries as the new one so it's mainly used for dog walks or outings at the zoo or mall.
